Himara is a small city located in southern Albania. The population amounts around 28,000 people including and the villages around (Palase, Dhermi, Ilias, Vuno, Himare, Pilur, Kudhes, Qeparo, Borsh, Piqeras, Sasaj, Lukove, Coraj, Kuc, Kallarat, Bolene and Vranisht).
The surface of Himara is 500 square kilometers and starts from the village Lukove,reaches the foot of the highest mountain in the region Llogara and also have all the villages form the other side of Ceraunian Mountains.
If you’re looking for a white Christmas in Himara the chances of that happening are pretty slim. However even on rare occasions that snow would occur it melts quickly, much to the disappointment of the people of Himara. On the other hand you can have a tour in two places with a real snow in Himara Region which are Piluri and Llogara.
Once a year, on January 6th, the Orthodox church have their water blessed by the priest of their respective church. Because Himare is a predominantly Orthodox community, it is a religious holiday. At approximately 10:30 am each year, the priest of the Orthodox Church that is located in Himare Fshat (Upper Himara at the top of the hill) comes down to the sea, says a prayer and throws a wooden cross into the water. After the cross is tossed into the sea a group of boys and men race out to where the cross has landed. Whoever gets to the cross first is blessed by the priest. This was a huge community event. All the people in Himare were down on the beach watching the priest and the men swim out to the cross.

The oldest café in the center of Himara was Cafe Kanda were known in the whole region of the coast and not only. Many people use to come to the center of Himara for her coffee. Café was closed for many years because of the communist regime, but Kanda did not forget to learn their children the formula of how to make coffee.
